Baby’s clothing needs are different than our own. While we just might wear something because we think it is “cool”, regardless of comfort; it would be in your best interest NOT to consider doing this for Baby. Baby needs clothing that provides comfort, ease of care and sensibility. After those needs are met, then you consider fun-ness, cuteness, style, etc.
Here are our top tips for making wise clothing choices for Baby:
1. Is it comfortable?
Baby’s skin is soft, smooth and sensitive. Provide clothes that do not cause irritation. Select something soft, loose and pliable. Cotton and cotton blends are usually a good choice.
2. Is it “diaper-changing friendly”?
In other words, is it easy to get on and off when you have a wiggling baby with a wet diaper? Loose necks, stretchy pants and no little tiny buttons are a must! Keep it simple!
3. Is it easy to care for?
You do not have time to do any extras when doing laundry. Can Baby wear it and Mom or Dad wash it, dry it and have it ready to wear again the next day?
4. Is it the right size?
If in doubt, go up in size. Baby is going to grow, grow, grow! Sometimes it seems that a baby can grow a size over night! One day a size six month shirt fits and the next day you can’t get the same shirt over Baby’s head!
5. Is it cute?
You knew we had to include this one!
6. And, one last thing to consider…quality.
Quality items mean durability (can be saved for Baby #2) and higher resale value.
Have fun dressing Baby!
